LMS - Essential Elements

Creating a subject presence in the LMS

Pre-requisites: No prior LMS experience is needed

Description: This workshop introduces users to the basic features of the LMS, including the key elements considered essential under the LMS Framework guidelines. Topics include subject site structure and design, providing subject information and learning resources for students, communicating with students, and using the LMS tools.

LMS - Assessment and Gradebook

Managing online assessment for students and staff

Pre-requisites: An understanding of the LMS

Description: This workshop focuses on the assessment options in the LMS.  Topics include how to create quizzes and surveys, set conditions for tests, set up an assignment submission area for students, collect student submissions, provide feedback and grades, and manage the Gradebook.

LMS - Communication and Collaboration

Enabling interactive and/or collaborative learning

Pre-requisites: An understanding of the LMS

Description: This workshop focuses on the communication and collaboration tools in the LMS. Topics include creating and managing online discussion forums, creating blogs and wikis, and using the synchronous Text Chat and Virtual Classroom tools.

LMS - Working with Groups

Pre-requisites: An understanding of the LMS

Description: This workshop focuses on the use of groups within subjects and communities to facilitate group work or for administrative purposes. Topics include how to use the various groups tools to create and manage groups, providing access to tools such as a private group discussion board, online chat, group email, and file sharing, and using the Sign Up List tool to allow students to sign up online for group work, tutorials, essay titles, projects, etc.
