Using Adaptive Release with JAWS

What is Adaptive Release?

The "Adaptive Release" feature in the LMS allows the subject builder to control content availability, providing or denying access to resources such as documents or quizzes according to set criteria. This feature is only used in some subjects, and may only apply some items in the subject. If you have any queries about the availability of particular items please contact your subject coordinator.

You may have to perform a particular action, or wait until a particular date, before an item is made available to you. Some items may never be available to you because they are only available to students in particular groups within a subject.

The criteria that control release of a document can be based on one, or a combination, of the following types of rules

The instructions in this guide will describe the process needed to access an item that has a 'Mark Reviewed' option within a content page of your subject and record that you have reviewed the item. The status of the item can be switched between and 'Mark Reviewed' and 'Reviewed'.

1.1. Navigating to the item

If you are new to the LMS, the most effective method for familiarising yourself with the layout of any subject page is to arrow through it. The methods below provide shortcuts for people familiar with their LMS subject pages.

Once you are inside your LMS subject:

You are now somewhere in the area of your subject where the item is located. Exactly where you are varies depending on page. You need to position yourself at the top of this area to navigate successfully to the item.

You are now situated at the section of the LMS subject page where the item for review (and maybe other items) will appear.

1.2. Changing the review status of an item

When you enter on the 'Mark Reviewed' option the item will now have a 'Reviewed' option. Your action is recorded in a list that shows which students have reviewed which documents, this list is only available to staff of the subject. One or more additional items may also then become available to you.

For students experiencing disability, some aspects of the LMS may present access difficulties. If you need any assistance or advice about using the LMS, or would like to book a consultation about your LMS subject please contact the Disability Liaison Unit at dlu-enquiries@unimelb.edu.au
